Interviewing Bonnie, Anh, and Skylee was fun and easy. They are pretty experienced with interviews by now and loved answering questions rather than asking them.
WhenI asked if they liked being in the Student Leadership Website group,Skylee said, “You have so much fun. It's like photography with words.” Anh liked that “you have so much computer work and learn more about Open Office.” She also likes that you get to work witha partner. Bonnie also likes working on the computer and exploringOpen Office.
I asked a question that I'd seen group members asking students in their interviews: If you had it to do over, would you stay in this group or change? All three girls said they would stay in this group. Skylee said, “it's the funnest!” Ahn said that other groups seem boring compared to the Student Leadership Website group. Bonnie likes all the familiar faces in this group.
Anh started talking about what the K & 1 students are doing in their leadership groups and then Skylee said that we should have information on these groups on the website. They decided to ask a younger sibling (they each have one in these grades) for suggestions for a name for this section of the site.
Some other comments made were: “Leadership group should be from 12:30 to the end of the day. We learn so much.” “The Student Leadership Website group is the best group in the world!” “Sometimes it's confusing and difficult because interviews aren't done and everyone is in a different space.” “For interviewing our group, we should have another group interview us and put it on the website.”
I would agree that I also observe some chaos during our sessions, but it is a creative chaos that seems a result of students being excited about what they are doing & learning and being at different stages in the process of telling and showing the story of each of the leadership groups at CASS.
